AGM
Quote from DVS147 on May 15, 2024, 8:20 amGood AGM last night everyone with some good points raised etc, and overall a nice healthy debate with a good turnout. I propose the North final is held on AGM night going forward hahaha!! I hope Sandy and Culter, Nigg Bay and Derry etc realise their hard work is very much appreciated and it would be great if we could have people getting along to finals where possible (commitments depending of course) as these clubs are putting on food etc for us, so it's only fair. Just wanted to make sure these hosts know we appreciate what they do.
My biggest concern from the night was the volume of events we are now going to have creating a logistical nightmare with the following events on top of the league matches:
- North Of Scotland
- Interclubs
- Derek Hearns Memorial
- Aberdeen Singles
- League Group Event *NEW*
- Handicap
- Plate *SCR and + H/C's*
- Shootout Handicapped
- Shootout SCR
- Doubles
- Team Cup
- Billiards (if it returns)
As you can see, lots of snooker to be played!! Fair play if we can fit all this in however i do think this could be a complete admin headache, however i hope it can all run smoothly for the people running everything. Guess it's too late to reconsider now....

Agree Committee
- Agreed to Derek (Chair), Duncan (Treasurer), John,Ewan and Gav (Comps)
- Ian Thomson stood down as club Secretary - Steve Clark was nominated as his replacement and this was agreed. Big thanks to Ian for all his hard work over the years.
League Handicap Structure:
- Fully discussed
- Agreed to retain current structure with max handicaps capped at -60 and +60.
- 60 start will be max for players with -50 handicap or better, 50 start for those -40 to -48, 40 start thereafter if difference in handicap is more than 40.
Rankings
- It was proposed that we remove handicaps from general rankings for competitions which was voted and agreed.
- The handicaps will be used for rankings for counties selection as it reflects someones form throughout the season and remains as an incentive to all to try and improve.
New League republic system
- Steve Clark has developed a new system which will update league results/standings. This system will also update handicaps and rankings automatically.
- Club Captains will continue to use the sheets and upload to league results whatsapp group and Steve will update. Access to the league, handicaps and both ranking list will be available via the website. Steve will advise all when available.
Financials
- Duncan has loaded the balance sheet on the web.
- It was voted and agreed to purchase a ball cleaner for use at all clubs, this included refunding Nigg Bay (Derry) for the one they bought so that there will be two in circulation. Captains should liaise regarding access to these and ensure match balls are cleaned properly twice per season if possible.
- It was also voted and agreed to investigate the cost of purchasing live streaming equipment to be used at final stages of competitions, if reasonably priced the necessary equipment will be purchased.
Competitions
- Competitions were discussed at length inc whether we need to reduce the amount of competitions. This was not agreed therefore the new season competitions will inc the following: North of Scotland, Interclubs, Derek Hearns memorial, Aberdeen Singles (Open Draw), Handicap, Plate Comp (New), two one day event Shootout competitions (HCP and SCR) and the Doubles.
- The Team Cup will also continue with same rules i.e. 6 players must play or frames are forfeited.
- The Competition Committee will look at potential for holding the plate and possibly the doubles events over one day.
- Sandy Masson advised that if North of Scotland held at Culter then we can no longer run over a week. Unless a different venue can be found this comp will follow the others and only have semi and final at a venue - this will be reviewed by the comp committee. As always clubs who may want to offer to hold this event over a week should advise the committee.
- A proposal for reducing the period between rounds of all comps was discussed and voted on. The period will be reduced from 3 weeks to two weeks, however we will continue to be as flexible as possible when unavoidable circumstance arise.
- A proposal to reduce the competitions and introduce a singles league (see proposal from Raymond above) was discussed and voted on. The vote decided to leave all comps as is. However the committee will consider running a singles league to run all season and advise, this may be held at Rileys if the agree to provide tables at a reduced rate and be over 4 frames without the need for two matches at home and away. This would potentially pave the way for developing Raymonds idea further in the future.
- It was also proposed that competitions should be handicapped in an attempt to widen the appeal and also give everyone more chance of winning. This was discussed at length and voted on. The vote result was to continue as is.
- A proposal to strip ranking points from those reaching the last 16 and not attending the final of competitions was discussed and voted on. This was not agreed and therefore will not be implemented - however players are urged to make every effort to attend the finals.
- A proposal to improve dress code for the North of Scotland was discussed. It was agreed that players reaching the venue should were a waistcoat, dress trousers and shoes.
- A proposal to open up NOS across the whole North of Scotland was discussed and agreed within reason. We have had Dundee players enter in the past and also George Smith from Dunfermline. Moray players are always welcome also anywhere in the North East as long as players are willing to travel to Aberdeen.
- Once again we will be offering reduced entry fees for those who wish to enter at the beginning of the season. The cost will be £20 for entry to: North of Scotland, Interclubs, Aberdeen Singles, Derek Hearns memorial, Handicap and Plate. If not entered in advance players will pay £5 per comp.
- It was proposed and agreed to increase to entry for both Shootout to £10 to include catering on the day.
- Steve Clark agreed to create a sheet to include all player names down one side and have a tick box for which competitions each player wishes to enter. This sheet will be used to detail the cost for comps and a total amount to be transferred by bacs. The total should also include the team registration fee. Sheets will be distributed to Captains asap. Captains should take photo of completed sheet and post on Captains Chat ONCE money has been transferred.
League General
- The league for 2024 was decided on a playoff rather than head to head results due to this not being covered in the rules or constitution. This system was discussed and voted upon. The playoff if two teams are tied at the end of season including a blue ball shootout will be implemented going forward, however it was agreed of more than two teams were tied at the end of the season the head to head results would be used, if two teams cannot be separated then a playoff would be implemented including a blue ball shootout if playoff is a draw.
- During the season it was agreed that a player can play twice if a team can only muster 5. However each player in a team can only do so once. As per last season if a teams have less than 5 then frames are forfeited.
- A proposal to increase the registration fee for teams from £100 to £150 was discussed and voted upon. The result means the registration will not be increased and remain at £100.
- New player handicaps was discussed. The current system whereby team captions are to assess and advise fair handicap will continue, however the captain should also monitor progress and alter accordingly if the player in question proves to be better than first considered.
- The committee agreed to review and update the constitution and league rules. Once complete an EGM will be called and changes explained and agreed.
- A proposal to introduce a playoff system to determine the league winners from the top five teams inc blue ball shootouts was discussed and voted upon. This system was not agreed therefore there will be no change.
AOB
- It was suggested that the prize giving/Smoker should be booked as far in advance as possible to ensure better attendance, this was agreed. Alan Pedalty suggested Mercur Casino may host us and would take the action to investigate and advise. If this is not possible committee will book somewhere earlier. This will include contacting captains to confirm names well in advance.
If I have missed anything please advise me directly and I will update this post.
Thanks
