AGM 2025

PreviousPage 3 of 4Next

I think the counties is covered by sponsorship money, but I could be wrong,I’m sure committee could clarify this.

Spoiler
Cheers Stevie.
IF that is the case, then feel free to remove my proposal Derek.

Cost me circa £350 to go represent my county last year. We got a £30 subsidy to all have a meal together. Rest is paid out of individuals pockets. I think we got a contribution from ACE as shirt sponsors? Or the £30 was paid by the association, not sure, but it’s only a small token either way.

Granted, nobody forced me into the Casino 😂

Neutral venue for a final should the home player of the venue make the final.

Difficult if we don’t know finalists till day before?

Derek mentioned possibility of a singles league next season.

I have offered to help with the organisation and running of it if required.

Here's some thoughts on how I see it working for discussion/amendments at the AGM, as I unfortunately won't be able to make it on the night.

Firstly there are a lot of comps and matches to arrange throughout a season, so I was thinking a soft opening, divisions of say 9 players playing 1 match a month (4 home, 4 away at random, or arrange for a neutral venue if prefer) or play each other home and away but that would be a game every two weeks which is a lot of matches if people are involved in other comps, especially with holidays/shift work etc.

Anyone can enter, Division 1 down to however many we need to include all entrants, divisions initially formed using the county rankings list so you will be in a division with players of similar ability producing competitive matches throughout.

The fixtures will be set out at the start (ie D Morrison vs J McCann by 30th sept), matches then won't all be left until the end like we often had with the GSL

Extensions or bringing matches forward can be considered but no later than 3 extra weeks as we don't want a backlog, hopefully nobody should be away for 6.

2 up 2 down promotion and relegation between the divisions each season.

Matches played off scratch, 4 frames , 3pts for a win and 1pt for a draw, if positions tied at end of season goes on frames won, so all 4 frames need to be played regardless of score.

If that is still level then head to head results of the tied players. If still level then a playoff match if needed to decide promotion/relegation/champion etc

£10 entry fee (or whatever agreed) spent on winner and r/up trophies and high break prize for each division.

Could be a ranking event (for discussion) points could be given based on 1st division finishing positions maybe top 5 , but then players in lower divisions haven't got the chance to obtain any until promoted.

Ideally we'd get 40/50 interested and run 5/6 divisions. As I say it's open to everyone, even if you don't normally enter comps, as you will be playing guys with similar ability throughout the season.

One thing I'm not sure how to resolve is if somebody wants to join it in the 2nd season, should they start in the bottom division? Wouldn't be great for the player or the rest of the division if there was a big mis-match in ability. I guess they go where ranking list dictates and we just increase the number of players in that division. For discussion.

Hopefully this has legs as it's something new and will offer regular competitive matches to everyone involved.

I won't be able to make AGM so please discuss and if we think it's a goer we can finalise the exact details of how it will work.

Thanks.

Proposal for season 25/26

Do away with the rankings all together and just use the handicap list, so no ranking points given out to players in the later stages of the competitions. If you want to break into the top 16, you must improve your handicap. If handicaps are the same for multiple players, they could be separated with who has been the lowest in season.

£25 for entries into all competitions except the plate. (Increase prize money)

League
Start season Tuesday 2nd September

2 week league break between Monday 13th - Friday 24th (Tuesday 14th & 21st) October holidays for players who go away with their family.

Finish up 9th December for Xmas, this is 13 games and the first half of the season complete. You could add an additional week game in and finish up on the 16th of December and finish a week earlier at the end of the season.

Start the 2nd half of the season 6th January and Finish the league up on the 31st of March. (24th March if we play up to the 16th of December)

Competitions

You have 2 weeks to play your competition matches (currently 3 weeks) this will shorten the time each competition takes to complete. Extensions could still be given for certain circumstances, but you would be required to potentially play 2 games within the next 2 weeks of the following round as not to hold up the next round.

If we put 2 weeks in at the end of the league season, we could have the 1st week for semi-finals and the 2nd week for finals week and would be played at a neutral venue for all players involved, this would involve clubs coming together to make this happen.

Here is a summary of how competitions would look based on 64 players, now obviously the dates would change if there were less than 32 entries. Also as a foot note I would propose to drop a competition (Aberdeen Singles) and cut from 6 to 5 as the league season isn't long enough to fit all in and this is solely down to the lack of teams in the league, hence why finals have been played on a Tuesday night. You will notice there is an overlap from roughly the L32/16 when the next competition starts and highlights why we need to scrap the Aberdeen Singles.

Committee
Currently there is not enough bodies to run Aberdeen Snooker in it's current structure and what's needed for the league to run successfully. My opinion/proposal is that we vote to keep Derek as chairman as he is doing great job in challenging times, there needs to be 3 people who run competitions with either 2 standing up to take these roles on or John stands down as competition secretary and we see what 3 fresh bodies have to offer. Steve has done a great job as league secretary and would propose we vote him back. I have currently stepped down due to the lack of photo's/video's sent through for me to post on social media this season, which is a great tool for promoting Aberdeen snooker.

Thats a great effort Gav, lots of work put into this and it shows that you care about the future of Aberdeen Snooker. This Gives the tools for the AGM to shake Aberdeen snooker up a bit. There has been a lot of Gripes this season and I hope the people that are moaning turn up and say it face to face, There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism so lets take it on the chin and move forward. Maybe a few new faces or changes to roles is the answer maybe its a huge mistake to lose the experience however lets make the AGM a positive experience and not a shouting match. Chairman and secretary need to take control of the meeting and not make it a free for all, we can certainly come out of this in a better place.

This years AGM will be held on the 20th May at 7:30pm at Sportsman’s club. We welcome proposals for the coming season. Please post proposals on this forum you would like to be discussed and voted on.

All Captains should attend and can nominate a team member as a replacement if unavailable. Team members are welcome to attend but votes are counted as 1 vote per team.

The biggest point I wish to discuss is moving league night to a Wednesday. This in my view is crucial if we are to encourage new players from the pool leagues to play snooker. Once we have a list of proposals I will post the full agenda… get posting.

Derek

Dek,

Has anyone from the Committee contacted the ADPL (Aberdeen District Pool League) to see if there is an interest as I was saying to John on Friday night wouldn't it be best if we see if there is Pool players out there that are interested in playing Snooker (Trial Period) as there is no point in upsetting the apple cart if only a few are interested !!! Also we need to try things to improve the growth and standard of play going forward 💪💪💪😁
