Minutes from AGM held Tuesday 20th May 2025 at Sportsmans Club.

Agree Committee

Derek Morrison as Chairman - Agreed, John McCann as Competition Secretary - Agreed following vote after Derry proposing Gavin McRobb. Steve Clark as Secretary - Agreed. Duncan Will as Treasurer - Agreed

Gavin McRobb as competition assist and general committee business (Gavin rescinded his resignation) - Agreed

New proposal for Mike Thomson to join committee as Vice Chairman - Agreed

Financial Report

Copy of financial report available on the website. Duncan gave a summary of account spend and balance.

Competitions

The competitions for 2025/2026 season were discussed and agreed.

The competitions will consist of:  North of Scotland, Interclubs, Derek Hearns memorial, Aberdeen Singles, Ian Wallace Doubles, Handicap, Team Cup, Plate, Handicap Shootout and Scratch Shootout.

The £20 entry to (NOS, Interclubs, Derek Hearns Memorial, Handicap and Plate) was discussed and agreed. If players wish to enter any of these comps individually they cost £5 per comp. The Doubles, Shootouts and Team Cup will not be included in the £20 cost but will be in addition.  Team Cup £30 per team, Shootouts £10 and Doubles £10 per team of two.

Team Registration Fee

The increase to £120 was discussed and agreed. In addition it was agreed that new teams could join for free for first year in an attempt to attract new teams.

League Rules

It was agreed to continue with all team players being allowed to play twice, once per season. A minimum of 5 players are required on any league game or frames are conceded.

Team Cup Rules

It was agreed that for the team cup 6 players must be available or frames are conceded.

Proposals

League games to start at 6:30 instead of 7pm. This was discussed and agreed however some clubs only open at 6:30 so in these cases matches will commence as soon as possible after this time but no later than current 7pm start.

Introduction of singles league. This was discussed and agreed in principle. Steve Biggs has agreed to run the leagues and will post separately with format and rules. In summary players will be placed in a league with similar handicaps, 4 frames played, 3 pts for win and 1pt for draw, one game to be played every 3 weeks, two players up and two players down from each league, fixtures set out at start of singles league commencing. It was also suggested that players from the pool leagues should be invited in the hopes this promotes teams for the future.

Move League night to a Monday or Wednesday. This was fully discussed and unfortunately an agreement could not be reached. The chairman explained that for the league to continue based on player demographics we must move from a Tuesday night at some point. All captains were asked to look at the possibility for future.

Scratch all handicaps for league games. This was voted on and unanimously voted against therefore league will remain as handicapped.

Handicaps in general were discussed and the proposals for playing half season with and half season without handicaps or a handicap banding system introduced were voted against.

Introduction of a man of the match per league game with a prize for most MOM per season was discussed and voted against.

Introduction of changing the Derek Hearns Memorial and Aberdeen singles to a handicapped competition was fully discussed and voted against.

All tables to be brushed and ironed for league games and competition ties was agreed and would be added to the rules.

Proposal to return to one ranking system to include handicaps was discussed and agreed.

The re-Introduction of a billiards competition was discussed and agreed. The will be named the Hugh Nimmo Memorial. Entry will be £5 and will be posted on website in due course.

Proposal to achieve a neutral venue for competition finals was discussed at length. Clubs were asked to volunteer their services with the proviso they have "known good condition" and were available in advance. The Chairman advised all that Culter as our premium venue would continue to be used for the North of Scotland event. Action all Captains to apply to hold a competition to the committee asap.

Proposal to drop ranking points for competitions and only use handicaps were discussed and  voted against.

Increase competition entry to £25 was discussed and voted against.

Proposal to take a break for October hols was discussed and voted against.

Proposal to play all comps though to Qtr Finals then have a FINALS week in April was discussed and voted against.

Start season on 2nd Sept thu to December was discussed and the chairman commented that this will be decided by the committee but agreed they would look at this proposal at the time of scheduling league games.

AOB

The use of Tuesdays for Finals were discussed and Committee agreed this did not attract spectators and would look at potentially reducing and playing on other days so as not to disrupt Tuesday league games for ALL finals.

An EGM will be called for all Captains to re-write league and club rules as they are in need of update.
