AGM 2025

Quote from Monsoon111 on April 18, 2025, 9:28 amThis years AGM will be held on the 20th May at 7:30pm at Sportsman’s club. We welcome proposals for the coming season. Please post proposals on this forum you would like to be discussed and voted on.
All Captains should attend and can nominate a team member as a replacement if unavailable. Team members are welcome to attend but votes are counted as 1 vote per team.
The biggest point I wish to discuss is moving league night to a Wednesday. This in my view is crucial if we are to encourage new players from the pool leagues to play snooker. Once we have a list of proposals I will post the full agenda… get posting.

Quote from Stevie on April 18, 2025, 10:11 amGood idea in theory Dek ,but might be a case of we lose players or teams by changing the night
,do we know if there is interest from pool league at the moment.
Could maybe put an ad up on pool association page asking the question see if generates any interest, just an idea.

Quote from Murr on April 18, 2025, 11:15 amAt the moment at Oldmachar we have a couple of guys that play regular and are confident in they will have a team to enter for next season.
Could there be clubs that still have tables also have members that might enter our handicap league.
RUA, Cricket club, Banchory legion and there may be others that I don’t know of.Only my opinion but I think it might be hard to grow the game with the pool players without a Qclub or Red triangle type of club in Aberdeen. That’s the atmosphere that these pool players are used to.
Could it be worth trying to run an open competition or two in Riley’s over the summer while the pool league isn’t running to see if there is any interest. I’d imagine the comps would need to involve a decent amount of prize money to get their interest but I’d imagine sorry to say it but Marc would probably scare them away if he enters
. I might be wrong but I think they also have a pool summer league and if they do they obviously are still interested in playing.
I’ve no idea why Riley’s don’t already do this to attract custom into their club anyway.Only thoughts too.

If snooker gets moved to Wednesday then hopeville won’t have a team
Inverurie pool league is on Wednesday

Quote from Robbo on April 22, 2025, 9:28 amCan I put in a proposal that the start times for games is brought forward to 6.30. As I imagine most teams can have at least two players ready for that first matches, as some teams, matches are become ridiculously late in finishing. Also a lot of the clubs are saying that they are closing by 11for staff issues and saves them having this issue?
Maybe some will still have this problem?

Quote from SteBiggs on May 6, 2025, 8:45 pmIn our old league the one table clubs started half an hour earlier. As it just takes one frame to get messy and it’s a very long night. This may be an option if not every club can start at 18:30 which would be the ideal scenario.

would Monday be an option for teams? Pretty boring night generally sporting wise and I know a lot of guys that play on a Monday anyway? Solves the Hopeville pool league issue and also you’re not competing with football (on telly or live) on Tuesday and Wednesday

Quote from Robbo on May 7, 2025, 9:09 amI would also like to propose a banding of handicaps into certain brackets eg. 0-20, 21-40, 41-60 etc. Then if you play someone within your bracket it is a scratch game and if you play some one from two brackets away then 20 of difference or at what ever difference is agreed it to be. This could be worked out to what is very near the max at present 60 with the top two that has just contested the NOS final. We have other good players that are getting near that but at present are giving max 50. So very similar but a slight tweak and may help some players mindset that they are giving starts that they feel unfair / fair, but then it just gives a different slant on ones that are very close in difference and back to a battle of good shots or safety when of of the same handicap range and ability.
Again the bands may need adjusted to what the meeting feels fair and maybe smaller band with down to 8 point (red+black) difference but this could be again voted for at the meeting.
Just a suggestion so the captains can ask their players for thoughts on? Hopefully they are doing that already so it can be discussed / proposed at the meeting

Quote from Rosco1 on May 7, 2025, 7:16 pmI would like to propose that handicaps should be scrapped. I have spoken to several other players about this and many are in agreement that this should happen. Handicaps are not proving to be an improvement maker (handicap tables show there is not much movement over the season) and they only really cause frustration to the player who is giving the start. I have personally witnessed some poor negativity from the higher handicapped players where they potted a red at the start and on the black then roll the black onto the cushion intentionally to stop the better player from scoring, this is not what the handicaps were introduced for.
Something needs to change

Quote from Monsoon111 on May 7, 2025, 8:14 pmRoss, your team just won the league…. You guys have in average the lowest handicap players. Surely it’s because of the handicaps that league was so close. I really struggle to understand why we would return to a non competitive league whereby the teams with players all with higher handicaps cannot compete. Everyone entitled to there opinion but for me would potentially drive players away…. However it’s good to discuss and see what all the players think. Makes no sense imo
