Quote from Deadlydunc on October 29, 2018, 7:31 pmIt is with deep regret that I have to inform the Association, players and friends that Bob Benson from the Sportsmans Club passed away on the 28th October. I am sure that you will all join me in passing our condolences to his family at this difficult time.
He was a well liked character that thoroughly enjoyed both playing and watching Snooker. He will be sorely missed particularly by his friends at the Sportsmans, as well as in the wider Snooker community in Aberdeen. I am sure that you will all have your own memories of Bob, some of which were shared by the players at the Counties yesterday.
i will advise of any further details as soon as possible.
As a follow up to announcement above I confirm that Bob’s funeral service will be held at Crathes Crematorium on Thursday the 8th November at 1130am. There will be an official notice in the press in due course. I have been advised that it is family flowers only however there will be a collection held at the service. I am sure that we will see a strong presence from the Aberdeen Snooker Community to pay our respects to a true gentleman that will be sorely missed by all of the players.

Quote from DVS147 on November 2, 2018, 12:24 pmVery sad to hear of Bob's passing at the County Championship. Like Barry Smith said in his speech 'this one's for Bob'. I'm very sure he helped Kenny with THAT pink!! I'm glad we managed to play the anticipated Bob v Davis clash in the league last year.....the night Bob decided to pot everything. Fortunately for me his angles weren't there that night!!!!! Big loss to our leagues, his effort and general love of the game. Gave 100% and always grateful win or lose. A very ill man who kept everything quiet, a brave thing to do that echoes much of my late Nan.....Too proud/old school. My sincerest condolences to Bob, his family, friends and the team at the Sportsmans. Rest in peace Bob. X

Quote from Murr on November 10, 2018, 12:09 pmSuch a great photo of Bob and I’m sure you can all recall this presentation night when he was clearly delighted in receiving his award. In his memory we have decided to rename the Handicap competition to “The Bob Benson Handicap”.
RIP Bob Tuesdays will not be the same.
