New Singles League 2025-26

As discussed at the AGM the committee have decided to start a Singles league for the 2025-26 season, which I have volunteered to help organise and administrate.

This is open to players of all abilities as the league will be initially split into divisions of 9/10 players depending on entry numbers, based on the end of season ranking list, so you will be in a division with similar standard players. Number of divisions is unlimited so anyone who wants to enter can do so. There will be a 2 up 2 down promotion/relegation system at the end of each season.

This will run from September - April depending on numbers, with the fixtures set out at the start of the season, a 3 week timeframe will be given for each match, with a short break over Xmas/NY. Extensions will be considered for anyone on holiday or who works away, up to a maximum of 3 weeks, this should ensure that anybody is able to enter should they wish. Fixtures to be played in the order they are set out.

Matches will be 4 frames each, we did consider 6 but it was felt that this could take too long with limited opening hours at certain clubs, and the amount of competition matches generally throughout a season. All 4 frames to be completed regardless of the score, as frame difference will be used as a tiebreaker if players are level on points at the end of a season. If players are still tied after frame difference is taken into account, and it affects promotion or relegation, then a playoff best of 5 will take place to decide. 3 points will be awarded for a win, and 1 point each for a draw. First player named on each fixture will be the home player, however the matches can be played anywhere if mutually agreed by both players.

I will set up a WhatsApp group for results/information to be posted on or results can be posted on here or sent via text to me. I will keep results/tables up to date either using a link on here or league republic, to discuss with Stevie Clark.

The entry fee will be £10 and the full pot used for trophies/medals for winner and runner-up in each division, and a high break prize for each division.

Entries will be taken at the pre season meeting, and the league/fixture details sent out shortly after.

Any questions or anything I've missed, or further ideas let me know. I'll add any further details here if anything comes to light.

Steve.

All sounds great. Count me in…

I love this idea, a great opportunity to get more competitive frames played throughout the season.

Just to add, it was spoken about at the AGM to open this up to any pool players that might be interested, also we may get entries from guys not currently signed to a team for handicap purposes. In these instances we will use the last known handicap to work out which division to place people in, or if entrants have never had a league handicap we would ask for an idea of ability, so they can be placed in the correct division. I don’t think it would be fair on anyone just to put everyone without a ranking in the bottom division, as we want it to be as competitive as possible throughout. We don’t want bottom division players having no chance of promotion as we’ve placed far superior into their division.

I believe Derek has messaged captains to get an idea of numbers, we will take full entries / fees at the pre season meeting.
