EGM
Quote from Monsoon111 on January 24, 2023, 11:55 amBased on feedback from various players on the ‘Looking for a team’ forum the committee will hold an EGM on 9th February at Sportmans Club. 7:30 pm
Agenda:
Handicaps. Is the revised cap working? Discuss alternatives.
Team numbers:
What is the agreed minimum numbers, do we allow Captains to share who plays twice or have a set rule for selection. Also discuss proposal as suggested re max points for teams short of players etc.
AOB: Discuss comps schedule and potential improvements.
Invitation is for team captains plus one team member.
Team captains should discuss above with their respective team members prior to the meeting.
Regards
Derek

I'm sure John/Derek are aware things haven't been perfect and would do things differently if they could start over, well here's everyone's chance..
My thoughts for discussion below:
Snooker league issues. Problem , Suggested solution.
Q. Players playing twice was brought in to prevent frames being gifted and to ensure everybody gets a game, however it is becoming an advantage to teams who don't have enough players, and there's no incentive to try get new players signed up, and could be manipulated especially with the 40/50 max rule. (If we are in contention last game of season we might only have Derek, Rene and Adrian available...)
A. A team can play somebody twice as many times as they want, (in order as we do now) BUT they must play the second match with a 10 point penalty on their handicap. League or Cup.
Result of this is you've still a chance to win the frame, albeit slightly less, playing with 4/5 becomes a small disadvantage as it should be, but no frames are gifted as in past, and teams would only do this as a last resort. They'd also be more inclined to take on new players or get "retired" players back in the fold.
Q New players starting handicaps. Impossible for committee, have to rely on integrity of players/captains but we've seen this be abused over recent years which makes it difficult, and also it's not easy for a captain to be precise on a new player's handicap if they don't know the player.
A. Still put the reliance on captain/player for starting handicap but introduce a review after 3 matches to all new handicaps with a potential general play docking at this time if felt too high (or too low..) Also err on the the side of caution, better for a new player to start too low and work up, than too high and come down while their team wins the league.
C. Captains should be more realistic/honest upfront as any player sent for a handicap review and facing a "general play" docking could be hit hard.
I've also ideas around the comps/handicaps but they aren't for this season so can wait for the AGM.
Play nicely.

Quote from Monsoon111 on February 12, 2023, 4:07 pmAll,
Thanks to those who managed to attend the EGM. A summary of points discussed are as follows:
Handicaps
A good discussion regarding the current capping at 40/50. It was felt that the current system was working to a degree due the majority of games finishing 7/5, however it was the opinion of the majority that further improvement was required for those at either end of the handicap spectrum e.g. very high or very low. It was agreed ihat a simple system be in place rather than something over complicated. Proposals will be further discussed and voted on at the AGM.
Team Numbers
Again some good points raised and discussed. The majority felt that there should be a minimum of 4 players in a team, otherwise the fixture should be delayed to another suitable date as agreed by both captains, however we would return to the previous system of marking players in red once they have played twice and they cannot be used again until all players have been utilised. The proposal re players who play twice playing only to avoid their opponents gaining points or changing handicap by 10 points for second games were discussed but not considered viable. This will be discussed further and voted on at the AGM.
New Players
It was agreed that captains should continue to assess new players and determine a starting handicap, however in future need to further assess these players after 3 matches, then again after 6 matches based on results and general ability. This was agreed but again will be further discussed at the AGM.
AOB
Competitions
There have been some minor mistakes this season, but the committee will learn and improve. The intention is for Euan Laing and Gavin McRobb to assist John next season.
With regard the the NOS there will be no redraw but ties will be best of 7.
Aberdeen Shootout
We will use the Sportsmans Club and Culter on the Saturday and Culter on the Sunday. There will be an open draw at each location until we have the last 8 at each location on the Saturday. An open draw will also determine which players will play at either location.
So far there is little interest shown so if interested please add your name to the shootout post.
Complaints Procedure
The Chairman asked each captain to discuss this will all players. Abusive language and personal comments will not be tolerated. We all have a responsibility to ensure our website can be accessed by potential new players and possibly youngsters. Constructive criticism is welcomed when raised in a polite and mature manner.
I think i have captured a good summary of the meeting but if I have missed anything let me know.
Thanks
Derek
