Derek Hearns
Sadly we have lost our local legend Derek
Dek passed away Sat morning at home
Dek will be sorely missed by all
Dek (kippers) did so much for Aberdeen snooker over several decades
Allways willing to coach fellow players or the kids just starting up
Dek had so much passion for cue sports and was never afraid to play the very best he could get his hands on
He was such a winner in so many levels and no much wonder he is one most successful players Aberdeen has ever seen
A true honour to have spent so many hours on the table with him and never afraid to put me in my place when I did something wrong
When he was beating me up he used to say the sound is so sweet when I hit the ball it could be jam on my tip lol
There will never be another Dek
I’m really sorry to hear the sad news of Derek passing. First of all I’d like to send my condolences to Denise and family. I have known Derek since I was a young boy and we had a number of hard matches between snooker and 9 ball through the years. Derek was a fierce competitor and a real winner but always a good sport and a excellent ambassador for Aberdeen snooker for many years. RIP Aberdeen snooker legend Derek Hearns. Sadly this messages of condolences have been forefront on the forum in the past couple of weeks with Bob Benson also. Firstly sincere condolences to Denise and family. The word legend gets thrown about too easy but this guy really was 'OUR' local legend. Coached me and others from an early age, showed us the way and guided us. He was always only a phone call away for a lesson and would be there in 10mins....such was the man. Strict, hard and said exactly what he thought, but a loveable guy with a big heart. I'm sure we will all share out stories from taking £500 off a World 9 Ball Champion to stories of him and his best friend Ian Wallace, the list is endless. The greatest player to come out of this city. Derek was the man. Rest in peace Derek.xx
I would also like to pass on my deepest condolences to denise,Jack,Lois and Graeme at this very sad time of the passing of my great friend, coach,and ex work colleague Derek "The Hitman" Hearns. I was absolutely gutted when I heard the news but I would like to say it was my privilege to have known you for the best part of 20 years and was my most fierce rival on the green baize without doubt the most successful Snooker player and greatest winner in Aberdeen history absolute "legend" and will be deeply remembered for his will to win and unbelievable safety many a played nailed to the baulk cushion getting splinters in there fingers Ha Ha !!! But I think the main thing he will be remembered for is the coaching he offered to everyone who wanted to improve there game taking his own time to help so many and if it wasn't for his stroke a few years ago would have still been gracing the green baize with his presence miss our conversations thank you for all your help over the years mate so until we meet again Derek rest in peace xxx Gone but never forgotten xxx
