Billiards Championships 2018

Hi All,

Just a reminder that this year's Billiards tournament will be held at the Transport Club on Sunday 18th March. 12pm start. Original date was a problem for most entrants due to Mother's Day clash.

It will be a round-robin quick format (100/150* up matches) or even timed matches to fit the schedule better) in 2 groups, Group A would play out on both tables from 12pm, and Group B would have both tables from 3pm, this would ensure people aren't there all day hanging around for over an hour to play matches. Plan is to follow the groups with the Semi-Finals (200 up) and Final (300 up). It may well be that we play down to the semi-finals and then arrange the Final for a weekday evening if we are tied by time constraints. I will know more again when entry numbers are confirmed. The groups will be seeded so last year's 4 semi-finalists will be placed randomly 2 in each group, with all other players drawn into those groups again at random.

*To be decided once entry numbers are confirmed.

If anyone fancies this who hasn't already put their name down, please let me know on here or by text etc, £5 entry can be paid on the day but could do with an idea of numbers beforehand.

Thanks.

Steve.

So far those that have shown interest are:

(Seeds in Brackets)

K MacPherson (1)
H Brebner (2)
M Oaten (4)
L Mutch (3)
S Biggs
H Hall
S Garden
G Whyte
B Benson
C Buchanan

Please confirm asap now the date has been fixed up. This date may be flexible if more than 2/3 cannot manage the 18th but hopefully this suits most if not all. As we are splitting the day into two groups you will only be required at the venue for 2/3 hours and if you have a preferred slot of 12pm or 3pm this might be manageable as groups are seeded.

Bold names are confirmed ok for the 18th.

Thanks and see you there.

I’ve booked the tables for Sunday 18th March from noon.

We can get started earlier, about 10:30am if needed.

Ref : Whichever of the seeds don't get to the final please!!

Just a quick note on the seedings as I have been asked. There are no rankings for the Billiards, and as such I just wanted to keep apart the 4 players involved who regularly support this event, therefore it was seeded based on last year's tournament only.

Winner to receive cash and the Aberdeen Billiards trophy on the night, also a small cash prize for the losing finalist and for high break on the day.

Also the winner of this year's event will qualify (Should he accept) to play a one off Challenge match against the current title holder and 7 times Aberdeen Billiards Champion Peter Farnan who unfortunately can't make the event. This will take place on the night of the Doubles Final. The idea of this is to have both tables in use on Finals night, for the spectators, and to give the winner an extra game. Also for Peter who asked that we do not move the event to suit him, he would rather we got more interest and was delighted that 10 players confirmed for the event and said to crack on without him. So for that I am extremely grateful and this just gives something back to him for his unselfishness.

Thanks and see you all Sunday. Steve.

Congratulations to Craig Buchanan on winning this year's Aberdeen Billiards Title, defeating Kenny McPherson 300-268 in tonight's final.

Full results to follow.

Thanks to Lenny for hosting the event and for refereeing the final, and to those that supported it. Was something a bit different and hopefully those new to the game enjoyed it and will be keen to take part in next year's event, in whatever format is decided going forward.

Well done Craig.

Thank you to Craig and Peter for putting on an excellent Billiards exhibition match tonight at Culter alongside the doubles Final. Craig settled better to the fast table conditions and raced into an early lead which he never relinquished. Running out a deserved winner with a scoreline of 300 to 231. Some fantastic play from both players and showed why they are both multiple winners of the Aberdeen Billiards Title. Thanks guys and a big thanks to Lenny for refereeing. Much appreciated.

Steve.
