Scottish Counties Teams
I have been through the rankings and offered all top 16 players a place in either A or B team. A few cannot manage and I then worked down the rankings in order. The following are the two teams selected to represent Aberdeen at the Scottish Counties in September:
A Team
Capt: Duncan Will (non playing)
Marc Davis, John McCann, Alex Main, Derek Morrison, Rene Taticek, Mark Oaten, Derek Hudson and Andy Gerrie
B Team
Capt: Steve Clark (non playing)
Steve Martin, Scott Paterson, Simon Roberts, Dave Goodfellow Jnr, Alan Pedalty, Derry Simpson, Stuart Leece, John Robertson

Two good looking teams with the A team looking particularly strong. Surprised to see Andy playing as I didn’t think he’d have played enough games to qualify or has the qualification rules changed? Good to see a few new faces and best of luck to both teams.
Yes Stuart I agree about teams looking strong hopefully do well.Qualification rules have changed a bit as long as you play 10 games between comps/League in your local snooker you can qualify. Andy has done that which is great as he has been a good succesful player for aberdeen teams over the years.
Im not having a go at Andy at all and he just happens to be the player in question. I just can’t see how anyone can qualify for the counties team after playing once in the league all season. It’s just not right and totally unfair on players who have played well and supported the league throughout the season. When did the counties organizers make you aware of the change in the rules? It might have been a good idea to inform the players at that point rather than not tell anyone about it at all. I’ve spoke to various players and not one was aware of this rule change.

Rule changes a while back. Wasn’t something that has been an issue in the past nor is it an issue now. Andy was between teams for a period but has supported each comp. We do not set the rules and certainly did not think this was an important issue worthy of posting separately. We struggle every year working through the rankings to get two teams together. Andy has qualified and as such we cannot discount him as that would be unfair.
The Team that win every year, Glasgow QClub pick their team via their Monday night comps highest handicappers I believe, a team full of Scotland Internationals. They don't play any league snooker at all like we do, just comps alone. I believe they scrapped the league rule so more teams could participate as their players don't come together on a certain night like ours do, we actually still have something special going up here with our league. You should be in this Stuart, a class act! To be honest, I am sure Aberdeen would be the most obedient to the rules out of all the teams present at the Counties event.
Derek thanks for you reply but if you were aware of a rule change then the players trying to qualify should have been made aware. You say it isn’t an issue but it is an issue if you finished 9th or 17th on the list. Towards the end of the season everyone assumed that 9th would have been in the A team as we weren’t made of the rule change. Again I’ve nothing against Andy playing but everyone should have been aware of the change earlier.
Stuart, an oversight on our part if this is a big issue. 9th, 17th will always get a chance as so many decline…. You included. I apologise if this has caused an issue.
